Rosie's Place is a sanctuary for poor and homeless women. Founded in 1974 as the first women’s shelter in the United States, their mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment that helps poor and homeless women maintain their dignity, seek opportunity and find security in their lives.
At Rosie’s Place, there is no budget for toiletries. 12,000 women a year, and growing, count on organizations like Starts With A Smile to help support them through some of the most turbulent and trying parts of their lives. We are dedicated to continuing our mission of helping our community, one donation drive at a time. |
For more than 33 years, Women In Need (Win) has provided safe housing, critical services, and ground-breaking programs to help homeless women and their children rebuild their lives. In the past year, Win served close to 10,000 homeless people — including nearly 6,000 children — and helped more than 800 families transition out of shelter into homes of their own.
Health and well-being are all vital to a mother's ability to take and sustain control over her family’s life as well as her own confidence and general well-being. Homeless mothers and their children are more likely to be in poor health because of their situation and lack of access to primary care. At Win, mothers are counseled on how to identify their own and their children’s medical needs, and to understand the importance of wellness such as annual exams and dental care. Issues such as mental health, domestic violence, substance abuse, nutrition, self-image, exercise, and hygiene are tackled through outside referrals and on-site workshops. |
Pine Street Inn partners with homeless individuals to help them move from the streets and shelter to a home and assists formerly homeless individuals in retaining housing. The shelter provides street outreach, emergency services, supportive housing, job training and connections to employment. They tirelessly advocate for collaborative solutions to end homelessness.
